Hodgson - Only one change

England boss will select either Cahill or Jagielka against Ukraine

England manager Roy Hodgson will make just one change to his starting XI for the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine at Wembley on Tuesday evening. The Three Lions boss watched his side cruise to a 5-0 victory away to Moldova in their opening Group H encounter on Friday night and sees no reason to tinker with a winning formula. Former captain John Terry suffered an ankle injury in Chisinau which has ruled him out of the Ukraine clash, with club colleague Gary Cahill and Everton's Phil Jagielka standing by to deputise. Hodgson has already made his mind up over who will partner Joleon Lescott at the heart of the defence, but will not reveal the decision in public until he has spoken to the players in question. "I thought the team was excellent against Moldova, both offensively and defensively. I don't see any reason for making any changes in the team other than the one which has been forced upon us," he said.

"We will be playing the same players and John Terry's position will be taken by Phil Jagielka or Gary Cahill. "Both Cahill and Jagielka are good players. Whichever player I chose I'll be happy the team is well covered and that John's absence will be well covered. "I trust them both, both are good enough. It's up to me now to choose which one I think is the better player for this match. "I've done that but I don't want to announce anything until I've spoken to the players. I'm looking forward to the match and hopefully we can keep our good start going." England team to play Ukraine: Hart; Johnson, Lescott, Jagielka/Cahill, Baines; Milner, Lampard, Cleverley, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Gerrard; Defoe.
