Linfield's veteran goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for Tuesday's friendly against Croatia at Windsor Park.

Caroll, 39, made his international debut 19 years ago and last featured in the 3-0 win against Belarus in the Euro 2016 warm-up match.

He replaces Michael McGovern, who has returned to Norwich City for treatment on an injury.

The other goalkeeper in Michael O'Neill's original squad, Trevor Carson, is also out having injured his hand in Hartlepool's 2-0 win over Cheltenham on Saturday.

Despite the absentees, O'Neill says there will be an element of change for the Croatia friendly but 'not as radical you might think'.

He did pay tribute to Aberdeen's Niall McGinn, who is line to win his 50th cap on Tuesday, saying:  "He is the one player who probably suffers most because when we play 3-5-2 it's difficult to find a place for him (as an out and out winger). His goals and assists ratio is very high to the minutes he's on the pitch."
