Martin O'Neill will give Republic of Ireland injury doubts John O'Shea and Shane Long as much time as possible to prove their fitness ahead of the Euro 2016 play-offs.

The pair are among a group of five named in a reduced 30-man Republic of Ireland squad whose conditions will be considered by their club sides before they report for duty in Dublin.

Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot, Reading defender Paul McShane and Brentford midfielder Alan Judge are the others ahead of the two-legged tie with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

An FAI statement said: "Martin O'Neill has reduced the Republic of Ireland squad to 30 players ahead of meeting Bosnia-Herzegovina in the UEFA 2016 European Championship qualifying play-off.

"Rob Elliot, John O'Shea, Paul McShane, Alan Judge, and Shane Long will all be assessed by their respective clubs before reporting for international duty."

O'Shea is suspended for the first game in Zenica on Friday night - live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7pm - after he was sent off in Ireland's final European Qualifiers match against Poland last month.

But he has not played since Sunderland's 3-0 derby win against Newcastle a fortnight ago because of a hamstring injury suffered in that game.
