Legendary figure to lead technical committee

Italy legend Roberto Baggio is set to become part of the national team setup after talks with the Italian football federation. The 43-year-old became a superstar in his homeland after dazzling performances for Juventus, Fiorentina and both Milan clubs over a 22-year career. He was also the star of the Azzurri's 1990 and 1994 World Cup campaigns, scoring five goals in the latter tournament, but missing the vital spot-kick in their final against Brazil to lose on penalties. Baggio, who scored 27 goals in 56 appearances for Italy, held a two-hour discussion with IFF president Giancarlo Abete and is expected to be unveiled as technical committee president after a board meeting on Wednesday. "I have given my assent, on my part there's the maximum willingness to hold the role of president of the technical sector at Coverciano," said the former World Player of the Year. "Now however I have to wait the Federal Board on Wednesday."
