Midfielder missing with foot injury

Michael Ballack has been forced to pull out of Germany's World Cup qualifier with Liechtenstein. The Chelsea star has failed to recover from a foot injury to make the squad for Saturday's first World Cup qualifier. Ballack had been doubtful for the game after missing Chelsea's draw with Tottenham last weekend. The news is a blow for Germany coach Joachim Low and it remains to be seen if he drafts in a replacement for Ballack. Low is hoping that Ballack could be back in time to face Finland in Helsinki next Wednesday. "Michael will not be playing against Finland," Low said. "Because he must have a break of eight or nine days." Chelsea will be hoping that the injury is not serious so that Ballack will be available for action after the international break.
