Striker encouraged by performance for Spain

Fernando Torres expressed his delight after scoring in Spain's 4-0 victory over USA on Saturday night. The striker's poor form has been well-documented all season, particularly since making a £50million switch from Liverpool to Chelsea in January. He has also struggled to keep his place in the Spain side after enduring a disappointing World Cup last summer. However, he stepped off the bench against USA to find the net and was pleased with his contribution in a typically classy team display. "I felt very comfortable from the beginning. I felt good and I was really committed. It has been a tough year for me," Torres told TVE after the game. "I have only played twice for the national team in recent times. The injuries I have had prevented me from being in good shape. "I am happy that the team won and that everything was perfect." Torres will now turn his attention to Tuesday's match against Venezuela before beginning his summer break.
