Premier League talking points: Leicester stumble, Chelsea revival continues

Salomon Rondon slips the ball under Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to put West Brom 1-0 up

Tuesday night saw Leicester City's Premier League title ambitions suffer a blow as they drew at home to West Brom.

In a drama-filled evening at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes title credentials were firmly tested by Tony Pulis' Albion side who came out to play in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Chelsea remain unbeaten under interim coach Guus Hiddink, running out 2-1 winners against Norwich. Kenedy helped them on their way by scoring the quickest Premier League goal of the season after 39 seconds.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth claimed south coast bragging rights against Southampton, Fabio Borini saved Sunderland from the jaws of defeat at home to Crystal Palace and Remi Garde's Aston Villa were humbled by Everton and now look odds-on certainties for the drop.

Leicester to rue missed chances?

To this point, Leicester have taken everything in their stride during their most unlikely of title challenges. They responded to a last-gasp defeat at Arsenal by scoring a late winner of their own against Norwich but now they must react again after being held at home by West Brom.

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri says his side will continue to fight after drawing with West Brom

There were suggestions after the game against Norwich that Leicester could be blunted by forcing them play on the front foot but it was not creating chances that was the problem against the Baggies, it was finishing them.

Indeed, as they dominated for long periods against Albion and laid siege to the Albion goal in the closing stages, they could not find a way through. Having been denied, it is now up to Claudio Ranieri to rally his troops as they look to get back to winning ways at Watford on the Saturday Night Football

Europe back on for Chelsea?

Guus Hiddink seems to think so! Following his side's win at Norwich the Chelsea boss said his side need to set a new target towards qualification for Europe through league position.

Despite their worst start to a league campaign since 1978, the Blues, who are unbeaten in 12 Premier league matches, are now up to eighth, just five points behind Manchester United in fifth.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink says Norwich forced his side into a battle at Carrow Road

Chelsea still have a chance of Champions League qualification through winning the competition itself this year, but victory at Carrow Road has propelled them into the mix for European qualification through the league, especially after Manchester City's Capital One Cup final win over Liverpool.

Europa League qualification could now be secured with sixth place as long as City finish in the top five and with Chelsea now just four points away in eighth and in form, they have an excellent chance.

Bournemouth deserve plaudits

Although Leicester City will rightly dominate headlines this season for their majestic achievement at the top of the Premier League, we shouldn't let Bournemouth's epic season slip under the radar.

Eddie Howe's men in front of their 12,000 strong crowd pulled eight points clear of the relegation zone with a confident and classy victory over Southampton through goals in each half from Steve Cook and Benik Afobe, helped slightly by two goalkeeping mistakes by Fraser Forster, who has had a week to forget after struggling against Chelsea.

It's heart-warming to see another relegation favourite at the start of the season proving all the doubters wrong.

It's easy to forget that this is a club that were seven points adrift of safety in League Two in 2009. Look at them now, sitting pretty on 32 points in the Premier League with 30 points still on offer this season. It's been a phenomenal rise for the Cherries.

Palace finally find a striker

Crystal Palace have been struggling to find a front man who can hit the target all season long, with boss Alan Pardew having used the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Dwight Gayle, Fraizer Campbell and recent new signing Emmanuel Adebayor in attack.

However, with just one goal between them all, Pardew has recently decided to use Connor Wickham instead as his lone forward, with the 22-year-old responding impressively with four goals in the last two matches.

Wickham's second-half brace almost rescued an unlikely point for the Eagles at West Brom on Saturday Night Football.

And the forward was at it again against Sunderland on Tuesday night after scoring twice more to help his side to a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light, making him Palace's joint top scorer with five goals this campaign.

Villa look down and out

Aston Villa's slim revival hopes got even slimmer as Everton hammered another nail in their coffin with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Remi Garde's sleepless nights are set to continue - he looked a broken man on 74 minutes as Villa fans exited en masse as planned -  the famous old Midlands club were founded in 1874.

For those who remained, as at Stoke on Saturday, there was more self-mocking, further chants against owner

Randy Lerner and a defiant rendition of "Aston Villa....by far the greatest team the world has ever seen."

Villa last played in the second tier in 1988 but they remain eight points from safety and with games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea still to come this month, their fate could effectively be sealed before Easter.

Everton toyed with Villa at times and hit them on the counter-attack at will. Romelu Lukaku deservedly reached a milestone to become the highest-scoring Everton player in a Premier League season with his 17th goal of the campaign - surpassing Tony Cottee's previous record of 16.
