MARTIN'S STARTING STAT FROM ANFIELD

Well it was all about the goalkeepers…

By a strange coincidence both Loris Karius and Darren Randolph were playing their 10th Premier League games for their respective clubs as I commentated on Liverpool 2-2 West Ham.

You might think that Randolph at the age of 29 would be way ahead 23-year-old Karius. In fact, Randolph has only played one other Premier League game ever - May 13, 2007 for Charlton Athletic in the last game before their relegation. That was also at Anfield and it finished 2-2 - just like his 10th game on Sunday!

Already Karius has achieved more than the Liverpool goalkeeper in that game in 2007, who played his only game for the club. His name was Daniele Padelli, who was on loan from Sampdoria. He came in January 2007 and left a few days later. He is currently the reserve goalkeeper for Torino, where he is understudy to a goalkeeper who has been linked to Liverpool, Joe Hart. He played the first two league games this season before Hart was signed.

Randolph has now played 11 Premier League games, three of them away at Anfield. He was also the goalkeeper for the 3-0 win in August 2015, so he still hasn't lost in those three matches.

HOME COMFORTS

Liverpool are unbeaten at home this season. Are they close to a record? Andrew T (Surrey)

MARTIN SAYS:  Following their 2-2 draw against West Ham on Sunday, Liverpool extended their record to 22 home games unbeaten in all competitions - the best of any side currently competing in the Premier League. Their last home defeat was against Stoke in the League Cup semi-final on January 26.

Highlights from Liverpool 2-2 West Ham

That's Liverpool's best home run since they went 32 games unbeaten (February 2008 to March 2009). They W23 D9 in that run.

They are unbeaten in their last 15 in the Premier League since losing 1-0 to Manchester United on January 17 (W9 D6 since then). That's their best since a run of 31 league games under Rafa Benitez (December 2007-August 2009).

However, the Reds' current record is some way off some of the best home records we've seen in the Premier League.  Chelsea boast the best unbeaten record, going an incredible 74 games and over four years without defeat at Stamford Bridge!

Here's a list of the top five longest unbeaten home runs since the inception of the Premier League…

  1. Chelsea (74 games to 22/10/2008)
  2. Chelsea (58 games to 19/02/2006)
  3. Man Utd (38 games to 15/04/2000)
  4. Chelsea (37 games to 13/02/2010)
  5. Man Utd (37 games to 01/10/2011)

HOMEGROWN GAFFERS

Which managers have managed more matches in the PL than Alan Pardew and how does his record compare? Billy, London

MARTIN SAYS: The current Crystal Palace boss reached the 300-mark at the weekend, having also managed West Ham, Charlton and Newcastle in the top tier.

Only four English managers have taken charge of more Premier League games than Pardew, with Harry Redknapp comfortably leading the way on 641 matches.

Highlights from Hull 3-3 Crystal Palace

Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce sit behind Redknapp, while fourth-placed Alan Curbishley took 28 games more than Pardew to achieve 108 wins in the league.

A look at the top 10 list shows that Pardew's win percentage record of 36% can only be bettered by Kevin Keegan (43.4%) and Redknapp (36.8%).

TACKLE-SHY CITY

After Pep Guardiola said he "doesn't train tackles", I was wondering how many tackles Manchester City make compared to other PL teams? Iain.

MARTIN SAYS:  According to our friends at Opta, Manchester City rank 15th in the Premier League when it comes to tackles made, having completed only 239 all season, ahead of the midweek fixtures.

Only Sunderland (237), West Ham (237), Bournemouth (233) and Burnley (228) have made fewer and all four sides currently sit in the bottom half of the table.

Although this could well be a product of Manchester City bossing possession - on average 61.2% - and therefore having fewer tackles to make, the fact that Chelsea (274), Arsenal (274) and Liverpool (282) have all made more tackles and sit higher in the league would suggest there is some correlation.

Highlights from Leicester 4-2 Man City

Nevertheless, there is not necessarily a direct relationship between tackles and success, as shown by the fact that the league's top tacklers are Middlesbrough with 318 who currently sit just above the relegation zone in 16th in the Premier League.

It's an interesting comparison between two sophisticated Spanish coaches, both of whom came into management with spending playing credentials at the highest level in Spain.

ONE HIT WONDERS

Henrikh Mkhitaryan became the first ever Armenian to score a goal in the Premier League. Which other countries have only one goal to their name? Mark

MARTIN SAYS: With the help of Opta stats, we've tracked down just four other players who join Henrikh Mikhitaryan as the scorer of their nation's one and only goal in the Premier League.

While the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Danny Higginbotham (Gibraltar) and Ruel Fox (Montserrat) may be their country's only player to have scored in the Premier League, each has hit the back of the net on numerous occasions.

So which are the countries to have only got their name on the scoresheet once?

Highlights from Man Utd's 1-0 win over Tottenham

Gael Bigirimana became the only Burundi player to score a Premier League goal when playing for Newcastle against Wigan in December 2012, while Swansea's Modou Barrow went down as the first Gambian to hit the net in the league after he scored against Bournemouth last season and has yet to add another.

Kei Kamara is the one and only Sierra Leone international to have registered a top flight strike when he scored for Norwich against Everton in the 2012/13 season (although Chris Bart-Williams was born in Sierra Leone, but is classed as English).

And Bobby Bowry remains the only player from St Kitts and Nevis to have scored when he got a sole goal in the maiden season of the Premier League for Crystal Palace against Aston Villa.
