Martin's Starting Stats...

I was at Goodison Park to see Everton do the league double over Leicester for the first time since 1986/87 - the last time they won the league.

Also See:

Back then they won 2-0 at Leicester (as it was in 2016) and 5-1 at Goodison (so six goals like on Sunday). Adrian Heath and Kevin Sheedy scored in both wins - and this time Romelu Lukaku scored in both.

Lukaku has now scored in all eight competitive matches at Goodison Park in 2017; the last Everton player to score in eight consecutive home games was Fred Pickering (November 1964-February 1965). Lukaku now has a chance of taking on the great Dixie Dean, who did it in 12 straight home games from October 1930 to February 1931. Lukaku needs to score against Chelsea, Burnley and Watford and then in the first home game of next season to match his record.

Everton equalled their Premier League record of seven consecutive home wins and in the seven games they have kept five clean sheets. They have now scored from corners in three consecutive games.

Marc Albrighton made his 100th Leicester appearance and scored his first away Premier League goal for the club. Islam Slimani scored his eighth goal for Leicester and his first away from home as well. It was also only his second that wasn't a header.

Shot-shy Wearsiders

I see that Sunderland did not to score for a seventh straight Premier League game on the weekend, but is that a record? (Jon, Newcastle)

MARTIN SAYS: Yes, Sunderland's 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United on Super Sunday was the seventh Premier League match in row that they have failed to score in.

However, the record is currently held by Crystal Palace, who did not hit the back of the net in nine successive matches on their way to being relegated in the 1994/95 season.

That desperate run began on November 19 with a 3-0 loss at Man Utd, before blanks followed against Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Liverpool, Norwich City, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest. The Eagles' scoreless sequence did finally come to an end when they beat Leicester City 2-0 at Selhurst Park.

By an odd coincidence, the last game in which Sunderland scored was in the 4-0 win at Crystal Palace (in fact a quarter of their goals this season have come against Palace).

Sunderland now have two league matches - at home to West Ham United and away at Middlesbrough - to net in to avoid matching that unwanted record.

No place like home

Spurs look unbeatable at home at present having won 11 successive matches at the Lane, but how many more games would they have to win to set a Premier League record? (Max, London)

MARTIN SAYS: Tottenham's comprehensive 4-0 win against Watford on Saturday lunch time was the club's 11th home win in a row in the league this season.

That sequence in the capital began with a dramatic 3-2 victory over West Ham on Sunday, November 19, before further wins against Swansea City, Hull City, Burnley, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Everton and Southampton followed.

But Spurs still have some way to go before matching the record of 20 straight home victories set across two seasons by Man City.

Roberto Mancini's men kicked off that incredible sequence by beating Wigan Athletic 1-0 on March 5, 2011 and closed out that campaign by getting the better of Sunderland, West Ham, Spurs and Stoke.

And that impressive run carried on the next season as City saw off Swansea, Wigan, Everton, Aston Villa, Wolves, Newcastle, Norwich, Arsenal, Stoke, Liverpool, Spurs, Fulham, Blackburn, Bolton and Chelsea on their way to a first-ever Premier League title.

More than a year after it began, City's winning run at the Etihad finally came to an end after a 3-3 draw with struggling Sunderland on March 31.

Spurs, who must win another nine top-flight matches at home to equal City's record, still have home games to come against Bournemouth - live on Sky Sports 1 HD on Saturday - Arsenal and Manchester United to close out the season. Then they may be playing home matches at Wembley next season as they bid to keep winning!

Blink and you'll miss it

After Everton v Leicester, has a Premier League game ever seen more goals scored in the first 10 minutes? (Janie, Southampton)

MARTIN SAYS: The goals were indeed flying in at the start of Everton's match with the champions on Sunday afternoon, with Tom Davies, Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton scoring inside the opening 10 minutes.

But the Premier League record is actually FOUR goals in the first 10 minutes of a game, which has happened on two previous occasions.

The first was back on August 25, 1997, when Blackburn Rovers beat Sheffield Wednesday 7-2 at Ewood Park.

That contest saw the home side race into a two-goal lead thanks to Kevin Gallagher's double, Benito Carbone then pulled one back for the Owls, before Graham Hyde's own goal gave Blackburn a 3-1 lead in what was a crazy opening to the contest.

Meanwhile, eight years later and Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers were involved in a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the 2005/06 campaign, with all four goals arriving inside the first 10 minutes at Villa Park.

Kevin Phillips fired the home team in front with a far-post header, only for Kevin Davies to level matters with a close-range volley. Ivan Campo then headed the Trotters 2-1 ahead, before Steven Davis equalised again for Villa.

Boro set to join unwanted club

Romelu Lukaku has scored more goals than Middlesbrough this season. Has a Premier League club ever finished a season with fewer goals than a player before? (Jack, Coventry)

MARTIN SAYS: Middlesbrough (22 goals) are on course to finish the season with fewer Premier League goals than Lukaku (23 goals) although that will not be the first time such a scenario has happened.

Image: Middlesbrough have scored only 22 league goals so far this season

The first occasion came when the Premier League's all-time leading scorer, Alan Shearer, recorded as many goals (34) during Blackburn Rovers' 1994/95 title-winning campaign as Crystal Palace managed on their way to being relegated.

In the 2002/03 season, Ruud van Nistelrooy (25), Thierry Henry (24) and Southampton's James Beattie (23) all registered more goals than Sunderland (21), who not surprisingly were relegated after finishing bottom of the Premier League in that campaign.

Three years later Sunderland again finished rock bottom of the table with just 26 goals, again fewer than that season's top scorer Henry (27).

Cristiano Ronaldo headed the scoring charts with 31 goals in 2007/08, ahead of Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor with 24 goals apiece. All three players' hauls dwarfed that of bottom-of-the-table Derby County, who scored just 20 goals in their 38 games.

Middlesbrough 0-0 Burnley

Finally, Luis Suarez was on target 31 times as Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City three years ago, three more than relegated Norwich City notched in the whole campaign. And that includes scoring five goals in two league games against the Canaries that season.
