Tony McGlennan will leave his role as Scottish Football Association compliance officer this summer.
The lawyer, who replaced Vincent Lunny in 2014, has informed the Scottish FA that he wishes to return to private practice.
The compliance officer position was created in 2011 as part of a disciplinary procedures overhaul by the governing body.
Whoever succeeds McGlennan will be responsible for "observance of the disciplinary rules", according to the Scottish FA's website, which will include deciding on potential retrospective action after reviewing reported incidents on and off the park.
The recruitment process is underway and McGlennan will assist in finding a suitable candidate.
