David Moyes reports for duty at Manchester United on Monday to begin the task of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot has seven weeks to get used to his new surroundings before heading to Swansea for his opening Premier League match, and beyond that some key fixtures against major Premier League rivals that will shape his first season in charge. Here, Sky Sports picks out at the key dates in Moyes' early weeks as he looks to replace the man many claim to be irreplaceable:
JULY 1 - FIRST DAY
It is widely assumed Steve Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Woods will follow Moyes from Everton as part of his backroom team.
JULY 2/3 - PLAYERS RETURN
With the exception of those who have been on international tournament duty, most will have medical tests to confirm their fitness ahead of the new campaign.
JULY 4 - FIRST DAY OF TRAINING
JULY 10 - SUMMER TOUR
A full strength United squad will leave for Thailand for the first leg of their tour of the Far East and Australia, offering Moyes a taste of the fanaticism the Red Devils enjoy in that part of the world.
JULY 13 - SINGHA ALL STARS v MAN UTD
Moyes' first game in charge, in front of a sell-out 48,000 crowd at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
JULY 20 - A-LEAGUE ALL STARS v MAN UTD
At the ANZ Stadium in Sydney. Possibly a meeting with a team that includes Alessandro Del Piero.
JULY 23 - YOKOHAMA F MARINOS v MAN UTD
It is widely anticipated Shinji Kagawa will have linked up for the first of two games in Japan.
JULY 26 - CEREZO OSAKA v MAN UTD
Kagawa's former club provide the opposition here.
JULY 29 - KITCHEE FC v MAN UTD
United end their trip in Hong Kong.
AUGUST 6 - AIK v MAN UTD
A short break and then off the Sweden for another pre-season friendly.
AUGUST 9 - MAN UTD v SEVILLA
La Liga opposition for Rio Ferdinand's testimonial, and Moyes' first game at Old Trafford.
AUGUST 11 - MAN UTD v WIGAN
It could have been Man City. Instead, Moyes must sweep aside Championship opposition in the FA Community Shield in order to collect his first trophy at Wembley.
AUGUST 17 - SWANSEA v MAN UTD
Moyes' Premier League debut as United boss on a ground where they only got a point last season.
AUGUST 24 - MAN UTD v CHELSEA
Jose Mourinho heads to Old Trafford in a showdown between the men most assumed were the first two choices to replace Ferguson.
AUGUST 31 - LIVERPOOL v MAN UTD
Moyes never won at Anfield as Everton boss. He has a better team now but the stakes are even higher.
SEPTEMBER 21 - MAN CITY v MAN UTD
The end of a daunting start to Moyes' time in charge at Old Trafford as United head to the Etihad and a first meeting with Manuel Pellegrini.
