Transfer news: Ian Holloway to explore loan links between Millwall and Queens Park Rangers

Ian Holloway believes making the most of Millwall's links to Queens Park Rangers could benefit the club in the loan market this summer.

Holloway is a former boss at Loftus Road, while first team coach Marc Bircham spent a number of years working in QPR’s academy system after being forced to hang up his boots.

Those ties could prove to be invaluable as Millwall explore ways of cementing their standing in the Sky Bet Championship.

A raid on the ranks at QPR would certainly aid their cause, with Harry Redknapp working with an abundance of talent.

He has guided QPR back to the Premier League via the play-offs and it could be that a step up in class opens the door for a number of youngsters or out-of-favour senior professionals to complete loan switches elsewhere.

The age range of our players makes it difficult, because we have too many in certain areas. I don’t want an older team.

Holloway said in the South London Press: “Hopefully, our connections might help.

“I am delighted for QPR and Harry – they took fantastic risks with how much they spent in the Championship. I wish them good luck.

“They will be just one of the clubs with a workforce that is too big and who have to pare it down.

“The age range of our players makes it difficult, because we have too many in certain areas. I don’t want an older team.

“Harry won’t be giving away his best ones, but there may be some of the age and wage that Marc might be able to borrow.

“That’s what I would like to do. I know what I want and that is half the battle. I am sure I can find people that fit the bill.

“It won’t be about money, it will be about how they see their futures.”
