World Cup: Croatia expect Luka Modric to be fit to face Cameroon

Luka Modric is likely to play in Croatia's crucial Group A clash with Cameroon despite suffering a foot injury in their defeat to Brazil.

The Real Madrid ace was a major doubt for Wednesday's game with Cameroon as he has been unable to train since Thursday's loss to Brazil.

Croatia are desperate to have Modric available to face Cameroon at the Arena da Amazonia in Manaus and team doctor Boris Nemec confirmed the midfielder is closing in on full fitness.

"The chances that Luka will play are big, bigger than 90 per cent. But we must be careful, we cannot force him," Nemec told Index.

Croatia coach Niko Kovac admitted it was a race against time to get Modric fit for the game.

"It was dramatic but Luka will be ready for Cameroon," added Kovac.

Croatia and Cameroon go into their game in Manaus with no points after losing their opening games to Brazil and Mexico, respectively.
