Hull have failed to win any of their last eight Premier League games, but boss Steve Bruce does not envisage bolstering his squad in January.

During a hectic summer, the Tigers signed Uruguay forward Abel Hernandez for a club-record £10m, English midfielder Jake Livermore for around £8m and Senegal midfielder Mohamed Diame for £3.5m.

A second Uruguay striker, Gaston Ramirez, also arrived on loan from Southampton, while Hatem Ben Arfa moved to the KC Stadium on loan from Newcastle.

However, their appalling league run, has seen City score just two goals in the last seven games and seen them drop into the dreaded bottom three.

When asked, ahead of Saturday's daunting trip to face leaders Chelsea, about possible transfer window activity, Bruce said: "If there's somebody we think can make the difference to us then we'll try and have a go.

"I've really not had a conversation at all with my owners so far and I think that would be wrong after what we did in the summer.

"But the door's always, always open and if somebody becomes available, who we can bring in to help the squad then, as always, we'll try and make it happen.

"I always think that January is particularly difficult because people don't want to lose their best players, which is normal. So we'll see what happens."

The Blues are fierce hosts in their west London home and will be even more hungry than usual as they look to atone for dropping points last time out at Newcastle.

The scale of the challenge is not lost on Bruce, who revealed his analysts had not been overly helpful in plotting a way past Jose Mourinho's men.

He added: "It's funny...one of the reports I get from the scouts usually tries to highlight a weakness and this one came back as 'none: they don't have any weakness', which I thought was quite amusing.

"They have marvellous talent. they haven't just got flair players, they're good at set-pieces, they're big and strong, they're powerful, good in attacking areas.

"They're one of the best teams in Europe and they've arguably got the best coach too. He's box office, the fella. What Jose has done is quite remarkable.

"I remember going there with Sunderland a few years ago (2010) and winning 3-0, which always sticks with me, but that doesn't happen very often."
