John Arne Riise has signed for Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos.

The former Liverpool full-back, who is Norway's most capped international player, was a free agent after his contract with Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia was terminated by mutual consent.

Riise, who has been training with Valerenga in his homeland to maintain his fitness ahead of the ISL, told Sky Sports he is looking forward to playing under Dynamos coach Roberto Carlos.

He said: "I spoke to the president of the club and I spoke to Luis Garcia and he loved playing in India last year. So although it is quite far away it was quite an easy decision.

"They love the English Premier League in India and there is a lot of love for Liverpool and the other big Premier League teams. Football and the league over there is growing and I hope I can help them by giving my best and helping them to grow even more.

"I used to love travelling all over the world with Liverpool and the club has so many fans abroad. I'm looking forward to the events that Delhi Dynamos have got planned and meeting and connecting with the Liverpool fans there.

"Roberto Carlos was one of my biggest heroes growing up and now I have the chance to play under him. I can't wait for him to be my coach now and I will do my best for him and for the team.

"Pre-season training starts in a week and I can't wait to meet to Roberto and the rest of the players and the staff."

Last month, Dynamos announced ex-Brazil international Carlos as their player-manager, while former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda was unveiled on Sunday - almost seven weeks after Sky Sports reported negotiations had begun with the Frenchman.

Riise joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2001 and scored on his debut as the Reds beat Bayern Munich 3-2 to win the European Super Cup - at Monaco's Stade Louis II.

The full-back spent seven years at Anfield, during which time he made 334 appearances, winning an FA Cup, a League Cup and the Champions League in 2005.

Riise moved to Serie A side Roma in 2007, playing 136 games and scoring 11 goals during a four-year spell in the Italian capital.

He then returned to England to play at Fulham for three seasons before leaving for Cyprus at the start of last term.

This year's ISL begins on October 3, with Marco Materazzi's Chennaiyin hosting last season's champions Atletico Kolkata.
