David Beckham's Miami franchise needs to solve its stadium issues "soon" or risk missing out on Major League Soccer, according to commissioner Don Garber.

The former England captain's investor group will meet with Garber at the MLS Cup final this weekend to discuss its plan to become the 24th team in the division.

Owners of the land near the stadium of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins do not want to sell.

And Garber said the failure of Miami Beckham United to secure waterfront sites in the city has been "frustrating".

He said: "If they can't finalise a deal for a stadium, they are not going to have an MLS team.

"We're going to have to reach that point soon. We will make the decision on Miami in due time."

Beckham is looking at an old boatyard near Miami International Airport and a spot near the old Miami Arena as possible locations, according to reports.

Miami is slated to become the 24th top-flight club after upcoming debut teams Atlanta, Los Angeles and Minnesota.

And with LA likely to approve a stadium soon, Garber said "it's conceivable Sacramento [in LA] could be higher on our expansion list" than Miami.

"It's very difficult overall to be the last league in to start major urban projects," he added.

"The Miami project has been frustrating. It hasn't been more frustrating than some that we've worked on. These things take time."

Beckham announced plans to run his own team in America in 2014.
