Velasco worry over star players

Honduras insist that they will not be taking any chances in trying to rush Wilson Palacios and David Suazo back to fitness ahead of Wednesday's World Cup opener against Chile. Tottenham midfielder Palacios has been suffering from a muscular injury while Inter Milan striker Suazo has a thigh problem. "The players have put in their best effort but the science doesn't lie - we have to wait to see how things evolve and take a reasonable time," the team's trainer Carlos Velasco told laprensa.hn. "From now until matchday we will make a more accurate assessment and then make a final decision. "We are in the elite of world football and we cannot make any mistakes, there can be no negligence," he added. Velasco says that he wants every player to be at full fitness as the tournament outsiders face a tricky opening game against the South Americans at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. "What concerns us is to have the player at 100%, even at 1,000%, to use a phrase from our coach, that can meet the requirements of playing at the World Cup." Coach Reinaldo Rueda expects to make his decision on the pair the day before the match. Honduras also face European champions Spain and Switzerland in World Cup Group H.
