PSV have reached an agreement with Utrecht over Kevin Strootman and Dries Mertens, according to reports.
Dutch giants reach agreement with Utrecht for pair
PSV Eindhoven have finally reached an agreement with FC Utrecht over the signing of Kevin Strootman and Dries Mertens, according to reports in the Dutch media.
After lengthy negotiations, which saw Utrecht turn down a €10m (£9m) offer for the duo earlier this month, a deal in the region of €13million (£11.7m) is thought to have been agreed.
Utrecht could reportedly earn an additional fee if PSV make a profit in the future by selling either of the players.
The length of the contracts the duo will sign is unknown and both deals are still subject to medicals.
Defensive midfielder Strootman has impressed for Utrecht since his January arrival from Sparta Rotterdam, earning a call-up to the Netherlands national side, while Belgian forward Mertens is a long-time target of PSV.
Utrecht are expected to make a substantial profit on the pair after signing Mertens for €600,000 two years ago and Strootman for €850,000 in the last transfer window.
PSV are keen to strengthen their resources and have funds to spend in the transfer market after selling winger Balasz Dzsudzsak to Russian side Anzhi earlier this month.
Utrecht are already planning how they will invest the money made from the sale of Strootman and Mertens, identifying four transfer targets on their
official website.
The Eredivisie club have confirmed they have made enquiries over Heerenveen midfielder Geert Arend Roorda, ADO Den Haag duo Timothy Derijck and Jens Toornstra and De Graafschap forward Steve de Ridder.
