Dutch captain reeling after shock loss to Denmark

Holland midfielder Mark van Bommel says he is 'speechless' after the shock 1-0 defeat by Group B underdogs Denmark in their Euro 2012 opener. Michael Krohn-Dehli scored the only goal of the game against the run of play when he picked up a loose ball and shot through the legs of Maarten Stekelenburg from a tight angle. The 24th minute strike proved to be the decider as Denmark secured their most important victory over the Netherlands since the Euro 1992 semi-finals. "It was the only dangerous action of Denmark," Van Bommel said.

Speechless

"I'm speechless, because these three points are very important." Holland had the bulk of possession and fired shots at the Danish goal at will but came closest to scoring when Arjen Robben's curling effort hit the post in the 36th minute. Van Bommel added: "Five of us had chances. Once we hit the post. So many good opportunities." Holland will now need results in their remaining Group B games against top-10 world ranked Germany and Portugal.
