York have signed Southport defender Alex Whittle on a one-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months.
The 23-year-old, a former Liverpool academy player, started his professional career with Dunfermline in 2012 and made 99 appearances at East End Park before leaving last summer.
He spent the first part of last season with Vanarama National League North side AFC Fylde, before moving up a division to join Southport in March.
Whittle becomes the fifth new arrival at Bootham Crescent, following the signings of Jack Higgins, Richard Brodie, Nick Kennedy and Tyler Walton, as manager Jackie McNamara prepares for life in the National League following relegation from Sky Bet League Two.
