Feyenoord missed the chance to go level on points with Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven after being held to a goalless home draw by PEC Zwolle.

PSV play at at VVV Venlo on Sunday and victory for Feyenoord would have lifted them above Ajax, who climbed up to second place with victory over Sparta Rotterdam.

Feyenoord pair Karim El Ahmadi and Sam Larsson both went close in the first half, while Zwolle's Younes Namli forced home goalkeeper Brad Jones into a fine low save.

Feyenoord substitute Nicolai Jorgensen and visiting forward Terell Ondaan also threatened to break the deadlock in the second period.

Ajax benefited from two own goals before going on to beat Sparta 4-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Sparta midfielder Ryan Sanusi's own goal gave Ajax a half-time lead and right-back Sherel Floranus also put the ball in his own net just after the hour-mark.

Two goals in quick succession from David Neres and Germany international Amin Younes put Ajax 4-0 up in the 76th minute.
