Newport have announced that the club's Supporters Trust are set to take control of the Exiles after raising sufficient funds.

The Trust announced they would need to raise £195,000 to purchase the club and have surpassed that target by £41,000 in the space of a month.

Owner Les Scadding had transferred his shareholding to the Trust back in July to pave the way for the takeover.

Now the new board are awaiting Football League approval to complete their takeover of a club currently sitting bottom of Sky Bet League Two.

A statement on the club's website read: "As a result of the staggering contributions of our wonderful fans we are delighted to announce that we have exceeded our target of £195,000 by raising an amazing £236,000 in just over month.

"The supporters have control, and the club is community based (subject to Football League approval). Now the hard work really starts. The club must live within its means, and we will now put the appropriate controls in place to ensure that happens.

"No one should underestimate the challenge ahead. The club has been in a difficult place and it is going to take some time before it gets to where we would like it to be. That said, we are confident we can achieve this with the plans we have."
