Jason Crowe grabbed the only goal of the game as Northampton extended their impressive recent run to one defeat in six league games by beating Carlisle 1-0.
Crowe headed home his fifth goal of the season after 63 minutes when he launched himself at a curling free-kick from Danny Jackman, sending the ball spinning out of reach for Tim Krul in the Cumbrians' goal.
Visiting defender Richard Keogh wasted a glorious chances 10 minutes into the second half when he scooped the ball over the bar from three yards following a Graham Kavanagh free-kick.
The only real chance of the first half fell to Jackman but his shot was saved well by Krul and then cleared off the line by Michael Liddle as the ball spun back towards the goal line.
Northampton could have extended their lead in the closing stages. Leon Constantine and Andy Holt both striking the post in the final five minutes as the hosts looked to seal victory.
