Boss Gary Johnson noted an improvement as Northampton drew 2-2 at Oxford City in their second pre-season friendly.
Tadhg Purcell put Town in front but the non-league side scored twice to turn the game on its head before Michael Built equalised. Johnson ran the rule over four trialists in a game in which his strongest XI played just half-an-hour, and the Londoner was pleased with the increased invention from his players following the weekend defeat at Brackley Town. "It was okay. We got a better result than on Saturday and it enabled us to have a look at a few people," said Johnson, whose side host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night. "When the lads came on at the end they looked quite sharp and we created some good chances. We had some good play and that was perhaps what we didn't see at Brackley. "It's another game and it will all get serious after Saturday and that's when we can really start to judge it."
