Mawene back for Preston; Cork boost

Preston manager Alan Irvine will welcome Youl Mawene back into his squad against Scunthorpe after a trying period for the French defender. He has missed the last four matches after his son, Theo, was hospitalised with a serious illness. The infant's situation has now improved after a spell in an intensive care and then a high dependency unit. Irvine told the club's matchday programme: "The most important thing has been the health of his son and we would not have tried to interfere in that situation. "Theo, who is only months old, has thankfully improved sufficiently to be on a ward and that is where he now remains." Adam Nowland's contract has been terminated by mutual consent following the midfielder's long battle against injury. Defender Sean St Ledger and midfielder Darren Carter are both suspended after picking up their fifth bookings of the season.

Cork deal extended

Jack Cork will be in the Scunthorpe line-up after Chelsea agreed to extend his loan spell at Glanford Park. The versatile midfielder or defender returned to Stamford Bridge on New Year's Day after an impressive six-month stint with the Iron, but the Premier League side have agreed to extend his stay until the end of the season. Cork could switch from midfield to full-back for the third-round tie as Kelly Youga has returned to parent club Charlton. But Cliff Byrne will return from his two-game ban - he was sent off in the 1-0 league win at Deepdale on Boxing Day - and Marcus Williams is also available. Williams was dismissed at West Brom last Saturday, but the red card has been overturned. Scunthorpe will include Mamadou Seck, their new loan signing from Sheffield United, in their squad, but have not received clearance for another new signing, Andy Wright.
