R. Santander v Sevilla preview

Image: Jose Reyes: Aiming to deflect attention

Jose Antonio Reyes has stressed Sevilla's form comes first ahead of the clash with Santander.

Former Atletico man unconcerned by recent form

Jose Antonio Reyes believes it is the form of Sevilla as a whole that matters rather than his own performances after he was booed in last weekend's defeat by Barcelona. The former Arsenal and Real Madrid man returned to his boyhood club in January from Atletico Madrid but has struggled to find his feet and was the target of jeers when he was substituted in Saturday's 2-0 loss. It was Sevilla's second successive defeat after they also went down to Sporting Gijon and Reyes admitted he did not expect the side to be sitting down in 12th place. He told www.sevillafc.es: "I was annoyed by the whistles but this will only change when we are playing well. "It is not about a specific player, it is the team as a collective. When the team is good, we're all fine, and if things are not good, we are all wrong. That's the key, we are a team. "I expected to be better than we are, I must say, but we must try to move forward." Sevilla boss Michel has told Reyes only he can turn things around, saying: "Reyes is a man of experience, he has played for great teams and he knows, at 28, he cannot be waiting for the coach to change things. He has to be the one to do it."

Return

Sevilla are back in action on Thursday when they travel to struggling Racing Santander. The visitors will be without injured defender Emir Spahic but Federico Fazio and Coke return after suspension. Santander, who sit third bottom of the table, have been dealt a blow after goalkeeper Tono picked up a calf injury that will rule him out. Francis and Marcos Gullon are both suspended while Bernardo and Lautaro Acosta are on loan from Sevilla and are therefore ineligible. Best bet: Draw - 23/10
