Gers looking to stretch their lead at the summit

Rangers can pull seven points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic with victory over Dundee United on Wednesday. The Gers have established a commanding lead at the top of the SPL table after claiming five consecutive victories. United remain in fourth place, and have suffered only two defeats all season, but they have taken only one win from their last five outings.

Rangers team news

Rangers manager Walter Smith has no fresh injury or suspension concerns to contend with. Madjid Bougherra will play his final game for the Scottish champions before joining up with the Algeria squad for the African Cup of Nations. Steven Naismith could recover from a hamstring injury to play a part against United or Celtic on Sunday. But it is more likely that he, along with Kevin Thomson (calf) and DaMarcus Beasley (thigh), will return for the game against Hamilton in a couple of weeks.
Dundee Utd team news
Dundee United are without Andy Webster for the trip to Ibrox. The defender is unavailable to play against his parent club under the terms of his loan agreement, so Darren Dods will come into the side. Youngster Craig Hill has also been drafted into the squad to provide cover. Midfielder Morgaro Gomis returns after a ban, but Scott Robertson is out with a groin problem. Long-standing injury victims Francisco Sandaza (groin) and Lee Wilkie (knee) remain sidelined.
