Victory a must for Scotland against Group I minnows

Scotland need a win against Liechtenstein on Tuesday night to get their Euro 2012 campaign up and running. Craig Levein's side could only manage a goalless draw in their opening clash with Lithuania last Friday, as their 4-5-1 formation could not break down a stubborn defence in Kaunas. Levein has already named his starting XI to face Liechtenstein and has opted for a more attacking line-up, knowing the three points is a must against the Group I minnows. Liechtenstein were beaten 4-0 by world champions Spain in their first match, and if Scotland are going to harbour any hope of reaching their first major tournament since France 98, nothing less than a victory will do. Their task will be made easier as they are roared on by thousands of the Tartan Army at Hampden Park, as Levein looks for his first competitive win as manager. Kris Boyd will start his first Scotland game for three years after being recalled along with James McFadden. Middlesbrough striker Boyd will line up alongside his former Rangers team-mate Kenny Miller in what is expected to be a 4-4-2 formation. McFadden came off the bench for the last 25 minutes of Friday night's goalless draw in Lithuania, but is a starter at Hampden as boss Levein looks for more attacking outlets. Hearts left-back Lee Wallace returns after missing the Kaunas clash with an ankle injury, while Rangers full-back Steven Whittaker drops out after picking up a calf problem in the opening qualifier.

Changes

Barry Robson and Steven Naismith, who lined up out wide in a five-man midfield in Kaunas, have also made way as Levein makes three changes to his team. Captain Darren Fletcher is set to win his 50th cap for Scotland and he lines up in midfield alongside Lee McCulloch and Scott Brown. Another yellow card for either would see them miss Scotland's next qualifier against Czech Republic in Prague. With Spain and Czech Republic the opponents in October, a big win would send Levein's men into those difficult games with some much-needed confidence.
