Michael Svensson and Chris Perry should return to the Southampton defence, while David Vaughan is set for his full Blackpool debut. Skipper Svensson and fellow centre-half Perry were rested for the midweek Carling Cup win over Birmingham, and although Jack Cork and Wayne Thomas impressed in their absence, boss Jan Poortvliet is likely to revert to his first-choice pairing. Kelvin Davis will return in goal in place of Bartosz Bialkowski and youngster Jamie White could come back in on the right of midfield with Paul Wotton dropping to the bench. Teenage Czech striker Tomas Pekhart joined on loan from Tottenham earlier this week and could be on the bench. Midfielder Rudi Skacel is the only injury absentee with an ankle problem, although he is not being considered as he is expected to leave the club in the near future.

Blackpool news

Blackpool manager Simon Grayson is poised to hand Vaughan his full debut at St Mary's, with the match live on Sky Sports 1 and HD 1. The £200,000 summer signing has been forced to wait patiently for a chance since his arrival from Real Sociedad. Vaughan was signed as a left winger, but the early success of on-loan Liverpool rookie Adam Hammill has kept him on the bench. Grayson's men have taken just one point from their opening three games to lie one place above the relegation zone. And the Seasiders boss admits Vaughan could now be given a role on the left side of a central midfield three in a 4-5-1 formation. However, strikers Daniel Nardiello and Stephen McPhee could remain sidelined.
