Southampton host Wolves in the Carbao Cup second round on Wednesday having finished runners-up in the competition last season.
Saints, who lost 3-2 against Manchester United in February's Wembley final, got their first Premier League win of the season on Saturday, beating West Ham 3-2.
Wolves, who had won their first three Sky Bet Championship games, lost 2-1 at Molineux against Cardiff on Saturday, and have not reached the final of a major cup since 1980, when they won this competition against Nottingham Forest.
Saints have no major injury concerns after the late victory over West Ham, as they look to reach the third round of the competition for a seventh straight season.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to make a number of changes, but have no new injury worries following the Cardiff defeat.
This is the first League Cup meeting between Southampton and Wolves since 1984/85 - the Saints progressed in the third round after a replay.
These sides last met in April 2009, with Wolves winning 3-0 at Molineux in a Championship game with goals from Sam Vokes, Jody Craddock and David Jones.
Last season's losing finalists Southampton have reached the third round in each of their last six campaigns
Since Wolves beat Nottingham Forest in the 1980 League Cup final, they have only eliminated top-flight opponents from the League Cup in one of their last 14 attempts, winning 2-1 against Coventry City in the fourth round in 1995/96.
They've lost each of their last six games against Premier League opposition in the League Cup.
