Goals from Ciro Immobile and Omar El Kaddouri gave the hosts a commanding 2-0 half-time lead at the Olympic stadium in Turin. Substitute Sebastian Leto pulled a goal back shortly after the restart, but Emiliano Moretti swiftly restored Torino's two-goal cushion before El Kaddouri sealed matters on the hour mark. The result, Torino's second triumph at home this season, lifted the Granata to 12th place while it dropped Catania into the foot of the standings, level on nine points with Chievo. The visitors went into the game looking for their first win on the road this season but struggled from the start. Torino dominated possession early on and went ahead in the 10th minute when Immobile took advantage of a poor clearance by the Catania defence and struck a right-footed shot from the heart of the area past rival goalkeeper Mariano Andujar. Midway through the first half, Norbert Gyomber's 30-yard attempt went over the bar in what was Catania's first chance of the game. The hosts doubled their lead in the 34th minute when El Kaddouri got past his marker and beat Andujar on a one-on-one. Catania made a double substitution before the break with Pablo Barrientos and Leto replacing Tiberio Guarente and Lucas Castro. It paid dividends as five minutes into the second half, Catania reduced the deficit when Maxi Lopez fed Letto in the box and his left-footed shot beat Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli. Torino extended their lead nine minutes later when Moretti got his head on Alessio Cerci's cross and beat Andujar. The home side rubbed salt in the Catania wounds by making it 4-1 in the 61st minute. Andujar failed to hold onto Immobile's bullet strike and El Kaddouri was on hand to tap in the rebound and round off the rout.
