Everton manager Roberto Martinez expects summer signing Gerard Deulofeu to miss the club’s opening Premier League game against Watford with a hamstring injury.
The winger signed from Barcelona for £4.2m earlier this summer having spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Goodison Park.
The 21-year-old suffered the injury during Everton’s pre-season tour of Asia last month but Martinez does not expect it to keep him out for the long term.
“He’s already working at 60 per cent so I don’t expect him to be too far away,” he said. “But maybe the weekend will be too early for him.”
There are also doubts over fellow-winger Kevin Mirallas and England defender John Stones, who were injured during Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial match against Villarreal on Sunday.
