Henri Saivet's first-half goal gave Bordeaux their first win of the Ligue 1 season after edging out Bastia 1-0.

Henri Saivet's first-half goal gave Bordeaux their first win of the Ligue 1 season after edging out Bastia at the Stade Chaban Delmas. Saivet fired into the top corner from a free-kick on the half hour mark as Les Girondins claimed their first win in three matches. Francis Gillot's men, who had lost at home to big-spending Monaco before drawing at Toulouse last time out, had several more chances to kill the game off, but their failure to do so proved inconsequential in the end. They were nearly in front as early as the second minute, with Bastia goalkeeper Mickael Landreau saving well from Ludovic Obraniak's strike from the right side of the penalty area. The match settled into a lull in the opening stages, thereafter, with chances at a premium. On the half hour, the deadlock was broken, however, with Saivet excellently firing into the top right corner with a free-kick from just outside the area. Obraniak went close to doubling the home side's lead but he was once more thwarted by Landreau, who made a fine save with his legs from the Poland midfielder's strike. Bordeaux's dominance continued after the interval when Brazilian defender Henrique's free-kick found Maurice-Belay, who managed to get in-between Francois Modesto and Sebastien Squillaci only to volley inches wide. The best chance Bastia had of levelling came when Julian Palmieri brought the ball in on the left and crossed toward Yatabare at the far post but he volleyed inches wide of the post. At the other end, Landreau once again kept the deficit to one goal with a smart save from Obraniak's drive that deflected off Saivet. Bordeaux's profligacy in front of goal did not come back to haunt them, though, and they walked away comfortable winners.
