York earned some degree of consolation after their relegation from the National League as they claimed the FA Trophy for the second time in their history, beating Macclesfield 3-2 in the final on Sunday.

Substitute Aidan Connolly poked home the winner four minutes from time after Macclesfield had twice fought back from behind at Wembley.

The Minstermen grabbed the lead with just eight minutes on the clock when veteran striker Jon Parkin headed home from a Danny Holmes cross.

But Macclesfield drew level six minutes later when Rhys Browne found space in the right side of the box and fired home through the legs of York keeper Kyle Letheren.

Vadaine Oliver slid York back in front but after missing a series of chances Macclesfield grabbed another equaliser on the stroke of half-time through Ollie Norburn.
