Burton Albion have signed Burnley winger Michael Kightly on loan until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old has played eight games this season for the Clarets, but wants to play regular football and is hoping he can do that with the Brewers.

"Every footballer wants to play games and I'm not different," said Kightly. "Burnley have been on a great run and doing well so I've not had many opportunities.

"Hopefully I can come to Burton and show people at Burton what I can do - I'm looking forward to that. Playing football is what I want to do. I'm looking forward to knuckling down and working hard and trying to get into the Burton team."

Burton are 21st in the Championship table, one place above the relegation zone, but Kightly is confident his experience will be an asset to his new club.

He said: "I have been promoted from the Championship three times so I know the league pretty well.

"I've been fortunate enough not to be in relegation battle but I'm sure I can use that experience that I have got in the Championship in this situation and hopefully I can help on and off the field at the club. I'm really excited and looking forward to getting going really."
