German defender Michael Hefele has become the ninth player from Huddersfield's promotion-winning squad to sign a new contract this summer.

The 26-year-old moved to the John Smith's Stadium on a free transfer last summer from the German third tier and made 40 Championship appearances, including three starts in the play-offs as the Terriers secured a place among the elite.

Although David Wagner has recruited 10 new signings ahead of the step up, the club have also agreed fresh terms with the majority of the squad from last season and Hefele has now followed suit.

His new deal runs until the summer of 2019, with Huddersfield then having an option for a further year's extension.

"Michael was a big player for us last season," Wagner said."I think everyone can see how big of an influence he is in the dressing room and how good of a character he is for the team.
