Goalkeeper eager to extend 20-year career

Veteran NEC Nijmegen goalkeeper Gabor Babos has no immediate plans to hang up his gloves and intends to continue playing for 'a few more years'.

This season marks the 37-year-old Hungarian's 20th campaign in professional football having begun his career with native club Sopron back in 1993.

Babos, one of the most experienced keepers in the Eredivisie, wants to carry on playing as long as he is able.

"I love this sport and every day I try and get the best out of myself," he told SEG International.

"In my 20-year career I have never played at a World Cup, European championship or in the Champions League but I am satisfied with my achievements.

"I feel fit and as long as it stays that way, I will keep goalkeeping for a few more years."

Potential

Former Hungary international Babos, who joined NEC from Feyenoord in 2006 after an initial loan spell, believes former Ajax man Maarten Stekelenburg has the potential to be one of the world's top keepers.

He said of the Dutchman, now at Roma: "He was developed enormously in recent years.

"He's a very strong goalie. It's only a matter of time before he reaches the absolute top."
