Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso says he would walk to Old Trafford if he was ever offered the chance to manage Manchester United.
The former AC Milan and Rangers midfielder - who won two Champions League titles during a 13-year stay at the San Siro - is currently in charge of third-tier side Pisa in his homeland.
Asked what he would do if he were offered the role occupied at present by Louis van Gaal, Gattuso told The Sun: "I'd walk there. I'd even go tomorrow.
"Sir Alex Ferguson has always respected me - and I have always admired the Premier League which, for me, is the best league in the world.
"In Italy, we are tactical masters, but in England you see pacey players - with great strength in their legs.
"I love watching the Championship, because in those games, I see true love that people in England have for football. They breathe football. I record two Championship matches a night.
"In Italy, some teams can relax during games. In England, with every action of a team, there is a corresponding action from the opposition."
It is unlikely United fans would be as keen on welcoming Gattuso given the record he has had in coaching.
He ended his playing career with Swiss side Sion almost three years ago and his final three months there were as player-manager.
Appointed in February 2013, he became their fifth boss that season but was sacked at the end of the campaign.
A month later, in June, Gattuso was announced as the new manager at Palermo following their relegation to Serie B but his stay was again short-lived as he was dismissed in September.
In June 2014, Gattuso took charge of OFI Crete in the Greek Superleague and his tenure was turbulent once more.
With a poor financial climate in Greece, the club was having difficulty paying players - but Gattuso insisted he wanted total commitment from them regardless of whether they received their wages.
He took the fiery style he was known for on the pitch into his press conferences, often banging on tables, cursing and throwing his arms in the air.
Gattuso tendered his resignation at Crete just four months after taking the job but changed his mind a day later before quitting again at the end of the year.
Just 14 months ago, he applied to become Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical's new boss after Alex Neil left for Norwich.
He said then: "I know a lot about Hamilton. They have a great academy there. With the experience I have gained during my playing career, I can teach them a lot.
"I will not be coming to Scotland for a holiday. I will work as hard as I possibly can to be successful. I think my style is perfectly suited to the way the game is played in the UK.
"My agent has already spoken to the people from Hamilton and I have told him to put everything on hold until we have a response from them.
"There have been clubs from Hungary, Israel and other countries who have contacted us to offer me jobs but Hamilton is at the top of my list"
Gattuso ultimately missed out on the New Douglas Park job to Hamilton defender Martin Canning and he remained out of work until last August.
His Pisa side are currently second top of their regional division with 14 wins from 25 games but many United fans would argue Gattuso lacks managerial pedigree at the highest level.
