Liverpool can win the Premier League title, says Nathaniel Clyne

Nathaniel Clyne believes Liverpool can challenge at the top of the Premier League this season.

Nathaniel Clyne insists Liverpool are capable of challenging for the title after their promising start to the season.

Jurgen Klopp's side are sixth with 10 points from their opening five games after picking up away wins at Arsenal and Chelsea and a 4-1 victory against the Premier League champions Leicester at Anfield.

Liverpool, who also secured a point against Tottenham at White Hart Lane, have impressed with their free-flowing attacking performances despite a challenging start to the campaign. 

And Clyne, speaking in an exclusive interview for Soccer Saturday, thinks Liverpool have the squad to challenge for top spot this season.

When asked if Liverpool can win the title, the England defender said: "I don't see why not. We've got the squad of players to fight for the title.

"If we keep playing how we are then hopefully we can be in amongst it at the end of the season."

Liverpool also picked up a 3-0 win at Derby to reach the fourth round of the EFL Cup where they will host Tottenham.

The win at Derby means it is five wins from seven for Klopp's men this season and Clyne has put his side's form down to the players knowing exactly what's expected of them.

"Everyone knows their roles and you can see how it's working and paying off on the field," Clyne said.

"There's a serious side to him [Klopp] on the pitch. If someone's not doing what he's asked, he'll let them know.

"We really make life difficult for the opposition and play at 100 miles an hour. We're entertaining to watch."

Liverpool's only defeat so far this season came against newly promoted Burnley but Clyne insists they've learnt from the defeat as they prepare to face another newly-promoted side in Hull on Saturday.

"You can say that [we've learned our lessons]," Clyne said. "It's all about bouncebackability.

"[The defeat at Burnley] showed we bounced back well and recovered to win games in the Premier League to keep ourselves up there."
