Tomer Hemed scored a double as Brighton won 3-2 at Ipswich on Saturday to displace their hosts at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

The foundations were laid for the victory in the first 12 minutes at Portman Road as the Seagulls raced into a two-goal lead through Kazenga LuaLua and Hemed.

Freddie Sears' effort early in the second half got Mick McCarthy's men back in it and then David McGoldrick equalised from the spot, only for Hemed to head home Brighton's winner three minutes later.

Hull moved into second place courtesy of a 2-0 home win over Preston, with Abel Hernandez's fortuitous effort and a Curtis Davies strike in either half enough.

Cardiff's good start continued as they were 2-1 winners at Nottingham Forest, with Kenwyne Jones' first-half header and Joe Mason's strike good enough to take the points back to Wales, despite Michail Antonio's late consolation.

Tjaronn Chery's goal seven minutes from time made it three wins on the spin for QPR as they saw off Huddersfield 1-0 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Middlesbrough got back to winning ways with a 3-1 success at Sheffield Wednesday.

Burnley flexed their muscles with a routine 2-1 success at struggling Bristol City as first-half headers from Ben Mee and Michael Keane earned the points and meant Jonathan Kodja's reply with the last kick of the game for City was meaningless.

Reading secured a hard-earned 3-1 win at Brentford. Orlando Sa's close-range strike and a thumping Nick Blackman free-kick gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead, with the Bees unable to build on Lasse Vibe's response after the break. Blackman's late spot-kick made sure the Royals claimed the spoils.

Wolves came from behind to beat Charlton 2-1 at Molineux, Birmingham's impressive start to the campaign continued with a 2-0 win at MK Dons. while Fulham earned their first win of the season - a 3-1 success - at Rotherham, who are still to enjoy that feeling.

In the early kick-off, a superb late strike from Chris Wood gave Leeds a 2-1 victory at Derby to record their first win of the season.
