James Chester insists the Aston Villa players are keen to repay chairman Dr Tony Xia for the faith he has shown in the club.

Villa spent £55m in the summer having been relegated from the Premier League last season, with incoming chairman Xia signing nine senior players.

But Villa have started the Sky Bet Championship season poorly, and host Midlands rivals Wolves on Saturday live on Sky Sports 1 looking for only their second victory of the campaign.

Wales defender Chester told Sky Bet via Facebook Live on Tuesday: "Having met [Xia] he's very passionate about the club and wanting to get the team back to its former glory.

"I think he's made a statement this summer with the money he's spent and hopefully as players we can repay that faith and start getting ourselves moving.

"The Far East investment is slightly newer but there has been foreign owners in this country for a long time. With it being such a global game it's only going to continue that way."

Villa are currently looking for a new manager again after Roberto Di Matteo was sacked last week following one win in 11 Championship games.

Chester, a £7m transfer from West Bromwich Albion in the summer, says he has enjoyed playing for the club so far, and that you must be "strong mentally" to play at Villa Park.

"I've really enjoyed it, to play for this club you have to be strong mentally, the fans are very knowledgeable and more than willing to let you know if you're playing well or playing poorly.

"I make sure every Saturday I'm trying to be at my best and performing to the best of my ability. Like I say they're a very knowledgeable bunch.

"The Championship is a division I know really well. I played a lot of games for Hull, it's difficult physically to play Saturday-Tuesday, and each game you must be at your best to battle.

"There's been no surprises on that part. We're disappointed with the start we've had, but I'm confident in the ability we've got that we can turn it around, and we're certainly capable of putting a few wins together."

Keep your eyes peeled for Ian Holloway's interview with Welsh pair James Chester and David Edwards later this week, and watch Aston Villa v Wolves live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 5.15pm on Saturday.
