Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is facing more time on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury during Wednesday's EFL Cup win over Swansea.
The 30-year-old will have to sit out another trip to the Liberty Stadium for a Premier League game on Saturday but City are optimistic the injury is not too severe.
Kompany is a key member of the City squad but has been regularly hampered by muscle problems of late and Wednesday's appearance was his first since he suffered an injury during the Champions League semi-final last season.
The Manchester City website reported: "Vincent was making his first start since May 4, but left the Liberty Stadium pitch moments before full time with the [groin] problem.
"No date has yet been set for his return.
"The positive for Kompany and City is that the injury is not a recurrence of the calf problems that disrupted his progress last season."
Another positive for City is that the absence of Kompany so far this season has not left them looking as vulnerable at the back as it has on occasions in the past.
John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Aleksandar Kolarov have all performed well at the centre of the defence this term as City have reeled off nine straight wins under new boss Pep Guardiola.
