Another rout duly followed on Tuesday night, where Tommy Doyle - grandson of City legends Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe - inspired his side to a 9-0 thumping of United in a Floodlit Cup match.

A number of players who have made their way through the Etihad youth structure have already seen first team action, with Kelechi Iheanacho a regular in the matchday squad.

The 20-year-old has scored four goals in 12 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side this season, while Tosin Adarabioyo, Aleix Garcia and Pablo Maffeo have also made the step up to senior football.

In contrast, Manchester United's head of youth academy Nicky Butt has his work cut out to ensure his players keep up with the 'noisy neighbours', although the inclusion of academy graduates Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford in recent England squads will offer some hope for the future.
