Aston Villa should complete the signing of John Terry within the next 24 hours, according to Sky sources.

Villa owner Tony Xia welcomed Terry to the club on Monday morning, confirming an announcement on the deal would follow.

Sky Sports News HQ understands the former England captain has agreed a one-year deal at Villa Park and will not be taking up a coaching role at the club, with Steve Bruce keen for Terry to focus on playing a full part in their Sky Bet Championship promotion bid.

Terry's confirmation as a Villa player is waiting only on minor contractual issues to be finalised, with his deal set to be one of the most lucrative ever signed by a player in English football's second tier. Terry could earn £4m if Villa secure a return to the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp has accepted defeat in his pursuit of Terry, according to Sky sources, and his attempts to lure him to Midlands rivals Birmingham City.

Terry posted pictures of a golf outing with Bruce last month, as well as workout videos with the Villa boss' son, Alex.
