Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale has denied suggestions that the club have agreed a deal to sell Joe Ledley to Everton.
Reports have claimed that Cardiff have agreed to let highly-rated midfielder Ledley join Everton at the end of the season.
Ridsdale has rejected the rumours regarding Ledley, but admitted the club turned down a substantial offer for the Welshman in the January transfer window.
"The Everton reports are totally untrue," Ridsdale told the
South Wales Echo.
"We had a far better offer financially for Joe than we did for Chris Gunter. But the player didn't want to leave Cardiff City and we respected that.
"There was an offer for Chris Gunter which was nowhere near the Ledley offer. The difference was that Tottenham wanted Chris and he wanted to play in the Premiership. We understood that."
Failed bids
Meanwhile Ridsdale has revealed that Cardiff failed in two bids to sign Premier League strikers on loan last week.
The Bluebirds were rumoured to be interested in Portsmouth's David Nugent and former striker Rob Earnshaw, who is now with Derby.
However, with the court case with Langston due to be heard in the High Court next month, Cardiff do not have the financial clout to fund any sort of deals where a fee is involved.
"We did enquire about two strikers with Premiership clubs last Thursday," added Ridsdale.
"I won't confirm who the players involved are, but we are still working hard to strengthen the squad. It's possible to bring in three loan players on Thursday, but none of them would be good enough.
"The two our manager tried to bring in last week would have been, in my view, good enough to start. One did involve a loan fee and the other did not."
