David Moyes believes stopping Romelu Lukaku will be crucial to Sunderland's hopes of beating former club Everton.
Moyes spent 11 years in charge of the Toffees and returns to Goodison Park for only the second time since leaving in 2013 for his ill-fated, 10-month spell in charge of Manchester United.
Lukaku, who has scored 22 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for club and country this season, is expected to lead Everton's attack on Sunday after recovering from a calf injury.
"I have incredible memories of Everton but I also go back knowing I had a great chairman and great people around me," said Moyes.
"It was the rebuilding of a football club and we went on to qualify for the Champions League with a very limited budget.
"I want to go back to Everton and win. We need the three points and I want to win there with Sunderland.
"Lukaku is a really good player and Everton are famed for their number 9s - he fits that mould. We need to stop him."
The Premier League's bottom club are back in action after returning from a mid-season training break in America.
Sunderland flew out to New York on the back of a 4-0 home defeat to Southampton, but were criticised for the timing of the trip which came a week before the club announced a round of redundancies.
Moyes, however, has defended the break and insisted it was beneficial.
"I'd have rather been in the FA Cup but we tried to use the time as well as we could," added Moyes.
"It was a busy period over Christmas and New Year so it was good to have a few days off, but we trained everyday.
"It was a chance to get together but we didn't do a lot differently in terms of training."
