West Brom's chief executive, Mark Jenkins, has vowed the club will "learn from mistakes" as he targets an immediate return to the Premier League.

The Baggies's eight-year stay in the top flight will come to an end this season after Southampton's win over Swansea confirmed their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

Jenkins returned to the club in February and revealed the club's finances had "unravelled" over the last 12 months under previous leadership, saying "there is no more money for wages".

A turbulent season on and off the pitch saw former chairman John Williams and chief executive Martin Goodman sacked early in 2018, while manager Alan Pardew left by mutual consent at the start of April.

"We have much to do this summer to get us in the right shape for our immediate target of making as swift a return as possible to the Premier League," Jenkins said in a direct address to West Brom's fans on Wednesday.

He confirmed season ticket price details would be released on Thursday which he hoped would be seen as a "statement of intent".

Relegation stings us all but the hurt is all the more damaging if we do not learn from the mistakes which have brought us to this point.

He added: "Relegation stings us all but the hurt is all the more damaging if we do not learn from the mistakes which have brought us to this point. It is my task to ensure that happens."

Caretaker boss Darren Moore was named Premier League Manager of the Month - on the same day West Brom were relegated

Moore came close to leading an unlikely survival. Three wins and two draws earned him April's Premier League Manager of the Month award on the same day West Brom's relegation was confirmed.

He said he will discuss his future with the West Brom board after their final top-flight game on Sunday against Crystal Palace, and Moore has received special thanks from Jenkins.

"Darren has reminded us of what this great old club is all about," Jenkins added. "He has spoken from the heart of family, of unity and a togetherness of purpose and duty.

"We have all responded and in this moment of huge disappointment felt the first flickers of the revival we shall now pursue."
