Southampton would only sell Victor Wanyama in the January transfer window for a "stupid offer", according to Sky sources.
The Sun reported on Tuesday that Tottenham were once again interested in the central midfielder after failing to secure the Kenyan in the summer.
But it is understood Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has no plans to move for Wanyama before the transfer deadline next Monday.
Spurs are happy with their midfield options, having successfully nurtured centre-back Eric Dier into a defensive midfielder and improved the form of players such as Mousa Dembele and Tom Carroll.
Regardless, sources believe Southampton would only sell the 24-year-old "if a stupid offer came in" and are focused instead on trying to keep the player at the club.
Manager Ronald Koeman recently spoke of a desire to secure Wanyama - whose contract runs to 2017 - on a new long-term deal, but as yet no agreement has been struck.
Wanyama has made 25 appearances for Southampton this season but has failed to score and has been sent off twice against Bournemouth and Norwich.
