Barnsley upset the odds to triumph 1-0 at Anfield with Ashley Ward scoring the only goal of the game.

Liverpool were scoring goals for fun having won their previous five home games, scoring 17 in the process, and bottom of the table Barnsley were expected to be brushed aside in similar fashion.

The game panned out completely differently to the form guide, and Barnsley secured a famous 1-0 win at Anfield, riding their luck and holding firm in the face of sustained pressure in the second half.

The match-winner Ashley Ward had been recovering from viral meningitis and his goal on the 35th minute capped an emotional return for the striker.

Premier League new boys Blackpool got off to a dream start with a 4-0 win on the opening day of the 2010/11 season.

Premier League newcomers Blackpool were promoted through the play-offs three months earlier, and produced a start even the most ardent of their tangerine following would not have predicted.

Out of the top flight since 1971, Ian Holloway's side were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to Gary Taylor-Fletcher and a double from Marlon Harewood, before Alex Baptiste completed the rout.

They won another six games before the new year to give their survival bid some welly, but won just three more before the end of the season and went down on the final day.

Fraizer Campbell's late brace earned Cardiff City a famous and deserved 3-2 win over Manchester City.

Manchester City entered this fixture in ominous form after they brushed aside Newcastle 4-0 on the opening day of the season.

There was an expectation Manuel Pellegrini’s team would produce more of the same, but Cardiff had other ideas.

Former Manchester United youngster Frazier Campbell scored twice for the hosts, who had not won in the top flight since 1962, but fortunes were reversed by May, with Man City crowned champions and Cardiff relegated back to the Championship.
