Walsall left-back Rico Henry is in talks over a permanent switch to Brentford, according to Sky sources.
The highly-rated 19-year-old worked under Brentford manager Dean Smith when he was boss at the Saddlers.
And, should a deal go through, Henry will become the second player Smith has signed from Walsall this summer after forward Romaine Sawyers.
Smith's successor at Walsall Jon Whitney admitted at the weekend that Henry could leave the Bescot Stadium before Wednesday's transfer deadline.
He said: "I know Rico's got a lot of interest and I need to have a Plan B for everything because I'm not going to have much time.
"I've got issues that I have to deal with and if something happens, then I will be ready to try to rectify it if I can."
Henry has had a dislocated shoulder since August 13 but is expected to return to full fitness this week.
Brentford also want to sign a winger before Wednesday's transfer deadline and had a new £800k offer for Gboly Ariyibi rejected by Chesterfield on Tuesday.
